From the middle of the nineteenth century, The Royal Mint established overseas branch mints near to sources of new gold discoveries, including three branch mints in Australia. This set marks the 150th anniversary since the opening of the Melbourne branch mint in 1872 and contains three gold Sovereigns that each feature the distinctive ‘M’ mint mark and a portrait of either Queen Victoria, Edward VII or George V.
