The 1953 crown was struck to celebrate the coronation of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, which took place on 2 June 1953. The obverse features an equestrian portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, featuring the monarch on her horse Winston, whilst the reverse features a design comprising emblems representing the four nations of the United Kingdom by Edgar Fuller and Cecil Thomas. This reverse design also featured on a 2022-dated 50p coin struck to commemorate the life and legacy of Queen Elizabeth II following her passing in September 2022.
